KD Staggs, Intern
Counseling Intern
Kaleb "KD" is passionate in assisting those in the LGBTQIA+ community, especially gender non-conforming and trans folx, bonus points if they are neurodivergent, as they navigate living in the south in the current social climate. KD believes therapy can be a safe space to be open and honest with yourself about your needs, wants and dreams and that the therapists goal is to meet you where your strengths are now to help make goals and build resilience and confidence to make those things happen while accepting and loving who and where you are today.
KD’s therapeutic style is a holistic, feminist approach that pulls inspiration from many theories to cater to the needs of the individual. “Therapy begins with the strong foundation of a relationship based on respect and empathy. Wherever we go from there is where we need to go!"
KD is currently pursuing their Master of Science degree in clinical mental health counseling from the University of West Alabama. They graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Georgia State University and hold a Master of Arts in Teaching Secondary Science from Mercer University. KD chose ATC for their internship site because of ATC's commitment to serving the LGBTQIA+ community and to build up their knowledge and sharpen their skills in sex and sexual trauma therapies. KD is currently under the supervision of their University of West Alabama faculty supervisor and under the clinical direction and supervision of Ariyanna White, LCSW.
Outside of work, KD spends their time getting involved in activism and local LGBTQ+ mutual aid and events. They also enjoy spending time with their kids, playing D&D, being outdoors and going to concerts. They love a good cup of coffee and will never have the same color in their hair twice.
